I remember being at a conference in Baltimore - several of us decided to go out to eat some seafood. We traveled in several cars - had a great dinner and talked at great length.

I was visiting with a new guy on the scene whose name is Alex Jeffreys - Well the cars all headed without us so we called a cab, no biggie…we thought….. We waited …..and waited…. then the kitchen staff closed the place down - we convinced one of them to at least give us a ride to a 24 hr gas station about a mile away. I remember looking around and how dark it was.
Well that gas station happened to be just outside the county line - we called for a cab again…..and again…. and finally after about 2 hours after the restaurant had closed and spending an hour at the gas station - a cab finally showed that whisked us back to the hotel.
But within that two-very-dark-outside-in-a-strange-big-city-hours,

Focus on What You Want

I just read today that they are going to upgrade the Hubble Telescope again. Over this orbiting telescopes 19 year life it has undergone numerous upgrades - with each upgrade bringing countless millions more celestial objects into focus.

It is truly amazing the images generated by this orbiting box where we can now pear back to quite literally the beginning of time-least as we know it.
As this year zips along where we are near the summer months, I find, along with many of my associates, that it is often a useful exercise to re-group and focus on what is important. Just like the Hubble we need to re-focus and energize ourselves on what is important.
When it boils down to it was is really important? The short list I use is:
1-Family
2-Spiritual
3-Work, Employment or Business
4-Online Business
5-Hobbies
6-Social Relationships
7-Physiological
Many of these areas our directly related to another - such as your physiological health -the better you feel - the better shape you are in - the more you can accomplish in say, your business activities.
When I look back over the years I wish I had given more time to my family - say when my children were younger. I say that not to cry over spilt milk - but to give heed to you who might have young ones at home. They will be gone before you know it…..
Just keep in mind one thing - Everything you do will either bring you closer to your goals or further from goals - the choice is yours.
Big New Project
I have begun work on a very large project along with a long time friend and associate. The main focus of this project is to create software and services that help non-profits and schools with fund-raising. Since I work with a couple non-profits, I have a very keen interest in improving the ability to raise funds.
In order to properly fund this big new project, I am liquidating several of my domains and websites. Since I do manage several hundred domains - while selling several of these off will reduce my monthly income - they will provide me immediate cash that I need for the Big project.

Increase Your Conversions

In order to increase your bottom line - your income with a online business, you can either:
1-Increase the number of targeted visitors arriving at your website
OR
2-Increase the conversion of the people who now come to your website
Today I want to examine in detail the second option - what can you do to increase conversions or results of your current website traffic. Say for example , out of one hundred people that visit your website - two of those people click the buy button and complete the order process. So you are effectively converting 2% of your website visitors. If you make $50 per sale then even though you made 2 sales and earned $100 - there are the other 98 visitors that you did not convert into a sale. They have left your website - most likely they will not return.
Now if you were doing door to door sales - that would be 2 yes and 98 no’s - now that would be pretty discouraging. Or if you only hit the ball 2 out of a hundred times at bat - you probably would give up the sport of baseball/softball.
Website Conversion rule #1 - Each page should have a single objective - and if it is a salespage - then the goal is to complete the sale
Examine your salespage and look at every single element on there - each web page element will either bring you closer to the sale or further from the sale. I recently consulted a firm that had ads for firefox browser on their sales pages, and if a person looked at their salespages, nearly 50% of it had nothing to do with the product that page was talking about.
Failure to abide with this rule is the biggest mistake I see most website’s make.
Website Conversion rule #2 - Have a backup plan - if you don’t get the sale - at least get the name and email
When a visitor arrives at your website - you have precious few seconds to grab that visitors interest - and when they go to leave your webpage - you need to offer them another look or offer, at a minimum offer them a free report in exchange for their name and email.
Another option would be to extract some information from them - possibly a quick multiple choice poll where you asked directly the reason they are leaving your site without purchasing or grabbing the free report.
Dave Guindon hasdirectly addressed this issue of the 98% of website visitors that leave your website without you getting anything in return. WIth a small script that you add to your webpage, you now have several options as to increasing the likely hood of the visitor either buying, giving thier name/email, asking them for a Tweet, or even extract information on why they did not buy with a quick multiple choice poll. It is called ExitSplash
The best part about this exit script is that you are increasing the conversion - the end result of every visitor coming to your website. Instead of settling for 1-2% results - you can extract a much higher number of either sales, email/name captures,or more information to help you better your sales page.
From a business prospective, when you think of all of the time, money and effort you expend to drive traffic to your website - you need to do everything in your power to leverage and maximize the return from each one of those visitors. Your online business depends on getting sufficient tra-ffic to your website - no traffic - no sales - no profits. As you may recall I have mentioned before running a profitable business online is dependent on:
1-drive targeted traffic to a website
2-convert those visitors - monetize that traffic immediately or capture name/email to market to in the future
When it comes to #1 - targ-eted website visitors you can either purchase visitors directly such as with google adwords - or you can provide the search engines what they want and drive tra-ffic from the search engine listings - or you can get your links on other people’s websites - or all of the above. I would maintain “all of the above” is the best approach.
Now you can provide the search engines exactly what they want as far as on page factors - but that alone is only part of the search engine equation. The second component of giving the search engines what they want is to develop hundreds of one way links pointing back to your website.
You see when the search engines “see” that you have hundreds of topical (links from website’s with similar topics) back links - they go “hey this website must be what people are looking for with this keyword because look at all of the links pointing to this website.” This causes your already search engine optimized site to move up to the top of the search engine listings.
It is a snowball effect - the more back-links - the more valuable the search engines see your site and the higher in the rankings your site will go AND stay!
I know you are thinking, “OK - that’s fine and dandy Ray, but how do I get hundreds of topical backlinks?????????”
The main method I use is articles - I am sure you heard me mention this before - the links on the right show you how critical I feel this is - it has worked in the past - and it works today.

Lessons of Life

This week is a bit different…..read the following and see if you can apply any of these things in your life???
1 - First Important Lesson - Cleaning Lady
During my second month of college, our professor
Gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student
And had breezed through the questions until I read
The last one:
“What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?”
Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the
Cleaning woman several times. She was tall,
Dark-haired and in her 50’s, but how would I know her name?
I handed in my paper, leaving the last question
Blank. Just before class ended, one student asked if
The last question would count toward our quiz grade.
“Absolutely, ” said the professor. “In your careers,
You will meet many people. All are significant. They
Deserve your attention and care, even if all you do
Is smile and say “hello.”
I’ve never forgotten that lesson. I also learned her Name was Dorothy.
2-Second Important Lesson - Pickup in the Rain
One night, at 11:30 p.m., an older African American
Woman was standing on the side of an Alabama highway
Trying to endure a lashing rain storm. Her car had
Broken down and she desperately needed a ride.
Soaking wet, she decided to flag down the next car.
A young white man stopped to help her, generally
Unheard of in those conflict-filled 1960’s. The man
Took her to safety, helped her get assistance and
Put her into a taxicab.
She seemed to be in a big hurry, but wrote down his
Address and thanked him. Seven days went by and a
Knock came on the man’s door. To his surprise, a
Giant console color TV was delivered to his home. A
Special note was attached.
It read:
“Thank you so much for assisting me on the highway
The other night. The rain drenched not only my
Clothes, but also my spirits. Then you came along.
Because of you, I was able to make it to my dying
Husband’s’ bedside just before he passed away… God
Bless you for helping me and unselfishly serving
Others.”

3 - Third Important Lesson - Always remember those Who serve
In the days when an ice cream sundae cost much less,
A 10-year-old boy entered a hotel coffee shop and
Sat at a table. A waitress put a glass of water in
Front of him.
“How much is an ice cream sundae?” he asked.
“Fifty cents,” replied the waitress.
The little boy pulled his hand out of his pocket and
Studied the coins in it.
“Well, how much is a plain dish of ice cream?” he inquired.
By now more people were waiting for a table and the
Waitress was growing impatient.
“Thirty-five cents,” she brusquely replied.
The little boy again counted his coins.
“I’ll have the plain ice cream,” he said.
The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on
The table and walked away The boy finished the ice
Cream, paid the cashier and left..
When the waitress Came back, she began to cry as she wiped down the Table. There, placed neatly beside the empty dish,
Were two nickels and five pennies..
You see, he couldn’t have the sundae, because he had To have enough left to leave her a tip.
4 - Fourth Important Lesson. - The obstacle in Our Path
In ancient times, a King had a boulder placed on a
Roadway. Then he hid himself and watched to see if
Anyone would remove the huge rock. Some of the
King’s’ wealthiest merchants and courtiers came by
And simply walked around it. Many loudly blamed the
King for not keeping the roads clear, but none did
Anything about getting the stone out of the way.
Then a peasant came along carrying a load of
Vegetables. Upon approaching the boulder, the
peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the
stone to the side of the road. After much pushing
and straining, he finally succeeded. After the
peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed
a purse lying in the road where the boulder had
been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note
from the King indicating that the gold was for the
person who removed the boulder from the roadway. The
peasant learned what many of us never understand!
Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve our condition.
5 - Fifth Important Lesson - Giving When it Counts…
Many years ago, when I worked as a volunteer at a
hospital, I got to know a little girl named Liz who
was suffering from a rare & serious disease. Her
only chance of recovery appeared to be a blood
transfusion from her 5-year old brother, who had
miraculously survived the same disease and had
developed the antibodies needed to combat the
illness.
The doctor explained the situation to her
little brother, and asked the little boy if he would
be willing to give his blood to his sister.
I saw him hesitate for only a moment before taking a
deep breath and saying, “Yes I’ll do it if it will
save her.”
As the transfusion progressed, he lay in bed
next to his sister and smiled, as we all did, seeing
the color returning to her cheek. Then his face
grew pale and his smile faded.
He looked up at the doctor and asked with a
trembling voice, “Will I start to die right away?”.
Being young, the little boy had misunderstood the
doctor; he thought he was going to have to give his
sister all of his blood in order to save her.
So what do these stories have to do with successfully running an online business? I would say almost everything…..
1-Your list that you send marketing messages to - behind every name is a person - treat that person with respect.
2-When you focus on helping others - good things will follow.
3-I remember a comment my Dad made when I was young - we were talking about a policeman - and my Dad said, “He’s just working stiff doing his best.” In other words when we work with others, remember they are just doing their job - kindness will get you much more then being sharp or a jerk.
4-This one I love - while so many moan about the economy - I maintain this is a huge opportunity for those willing to look and act. In fact I discussed to huge opportunities with an associate this morning. Energy issues and funding issues - these are not problems but are opportunities.
5-What do you give unconditionally? Never forget the importance of your family - they will be there through thick and thin.
A “mental game” I played when I was on the road in sales was to see how many people I could get to smile during that one day - it was certainly fun and I am sure I brought a smile to thousands of people. What can you do in your life to help others?

It is quite simple when you look at it correctly. 1-You have a website or an affiliate website you want to promote 2-You drive traffic to that website 3-You convert the visitors that come to the website into revenue That is all there is to it - everything else is fluff Now of course, each of these 3 steps can be greatly expanded - but my point is that you always keep these 3 steps in mind - they will not change. So anytime that next best thing comes your way - ask yourself - does this product help me accomplish these 3 objectives. Many products or services will…… but most will not. It is a question I ask myself often - “Does this action - or thing I am about to do - does it bring me closer or further from my goals - my immediate objectives?” If it does then do it - if it does not - then skip it. This simple question will keep you focused on what is important. Step One is a given - if we are talking about an online business. It is step 2 and 3 that you need to be focused on. I Knew Him When he Had Nothing But a Dream

Trust me.
I know most people who know me do anyway, but really… I’m asking you to trust me with this. If you don’t like what you see, feel free to unsubscribe from my mailing lists and you’ll never have to put up with me again.
If you’re a regular reader I think you probably know I generally don’t like videos, and that I prefer to read about something as I can very quickly skim through copy to see what it’s all about - we’re all busy right?
And we don’t all have the time to spend watching online video because time is money.
And we all have our preferred learning styles.
There are exceptions though…
Sometimes it’s worth putting aside time and preferences to check something out. This is one of those times.
I’ve just finished watching the video and I straight away called the guy who made it (yes I know him - he was the one who told me to watch it in the first place), and asked him straight what he was doing and was he going to have the time to do what he claims he’s going to do.
While he was giving me more detail about it, I could hear his instant messenger going off in the background. He kept apologising and drifting for a few moments as he furiously pounded the keyboard to answer the new message that had come in.
He’s like that though. He’s both dynamic and a dynamite person to know. I always feel a bit breathless after talking to him. And there’s no denying the success he’s been having.
And I absolutely trust him 100% to deliver what he says he’s going to.
But before you click the link I have to tell you that…
#1 - It took me 5 attempts before I could get a connection to the server to watch the video, it just kept hanging.
#2 - I found out it was because the server is getting hammered. A bit of a cliche I know, but true.
#3 - There’s no sign up or squeeze page, you’ll just get straight to see the video (if you’re lucky).
The reason for #1 and #2 above is because a lot of people have been waiting for this…
I know that’s true because I’ve watched it all unfold since March this year, and I’ve seen him almost pushed into doing this by his customers. But I didn’t know how many people until a few minutes ago when I had the call with him.
I won’t waste any more of your time, I apologise if you can’t get to see it, it might have already been taken down by the time you get to it. That can’t be helped, but I think you’ll understand why once (if) you get there.
I’m still a bit incredulous at what he’s doing, but like I said, I trust him.
